LET’S GET YOU SET UP

Film it right.
Catch every shot.

You only need your phone and a steady setup. A clear view of the table helps me follow the action and give your match the best commentary.

FIRST THINGS FIRST

Turn your phone sideways.

Film horizontally in landscape — not vertically in portrait. Rotate your phone before you press record and check that the video preview is wide. This gives your match the proper widescreen view.

Correct filming angle: a wide TV-style view from a raised position behind the short end of the pool table, looking down the playing surface rather than straight down from above
Correct: landscape, TV-style angleTurn your phone sideways. Film from a raised position behind the short end, looking down the table like this — not from directly overhead. Keep the whole playing surface and all six pockets in frame.
Avoid: a phone held vertically with a narrow video frame cutting off the ends of the pool table
Avoid: portraitA tall, narrow video makes it harder to show the full table.

WHERE TO PUT YOUR PHONE

Behind the short end.
Raised above the action.

This diagram shows the position from above. Centre your phone behind a short end, secure it on a tripod and raise it high enough to look down onto the table.

Tilt it towards the playing surface. Check the preview: the whole table and all six pockets should be visible, with a little space around the rails.

A few extra tips before you record
  1. Choose a high, centred angle

Position your phone behind one short end of the table, centred and raised high enough to look down onto the playing surface. Tilt it towards the table so the balls are easy to follow.

  2. Show the whole table

Keep all six pockets and the full playing surface in frame, with a little space around the rails. Avoid a low angle where players or cushions hide the balls.

  3. Keep your phone still

Use a tripod or a secure phone mount. Leave the camera in the same position for the match, without panning, zooming or holding it in your hand.

  4. Make the picture clear

Clean your camera lens and use good table lighting. Record in 1080p HD if available, and check that the balls and pockets are clearly visible.

  5. Record the complete action

Start before the break and keep recording until the final ball is potted. Keep enough battery and storage for the full match, and switch on Do Not Disturb to reduce interruptions.

  6. Do a quick test first

Record a short clip and play it back before your match. Check that it is horizontal, steady and clear, and that a player standing at either end does not block the table.

Before you press record: phone sideways, whole table visible, camera secure. Ready to send it? See how to upload your match.
